Technical Requirements

A complete overview of the technical requirements for the smooth operation of Guestnet modules on various devices.

Written by Sophie Notdurfter

Landing Page Wifi

To ensure the landing page loads correctly, the following requirement apply:

  • A Wi-Fi router (or equivalent infrastructure) that allows you to set a URL as a landing page, without being overridden by a captive portal on Android or iOS.

Note: The information provided serves as a technical recommendation. Coordination with the responsible network technician is required for the specific implementation and configuration.

Touchscreen

For using the Guestnet web app on touchscreens, the following requirements apply:

  • Touchscreen with HDMI interface

  • Digital signage device or mini PC (see recommended hardware)

  • Stable internet connection (a LAN connection is preferable to WLAN)

  • The general Guestnet web app can be accessed directly. Adding the parameter ?infoterminal=1 activates additional functions.

You can find more information here:
How to activate the display on touchscreens

Infoscreen

To set up a Guestnet infoscreen, you'll need:

  • Monitor or TV with HDMI input

  • Internet connection (LAN preferred over Wi-Fi)

  • Digital signage device or mini PC (see recommended hardware)

Room TV

For in-room TV broadcasting via antenna:

  • TV (no internet connection required)

  • Digital signage device or mini PC (connected via HDMI to the modulator)

  • Modulator

  • Antenna cable

Additional notes:

  • Use only one video file to ensure uninterrupted playback

  • We recommend Full HD video files, as 4K videos may cause streaming delays depending on the connection

BrightSign Devices – Important Notes

Device support depends on the series and firmware:

  • BrightSign Series 3 will no longer be supported from October 1, 2025

  • BrightSign Series 4 is supported but requires a firmware update

  • BrightSign Series 5 must be manually upgraded to Chromium 120 by a technician

Modulator

A modulator converts HDMI signals into a digital broadcast signal for in-room TVs via antenna distribution.

  • Two common formats:
SD MPEG-2 (older TVs) and HD MPEG-4 (newer TVs)

  • The correct modulator depends on the TV resolution and antenna setup.
